Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, gave a cheque for £1,000 to Stuart Thompson MBE. Stuart is a member of the volunteer committee for Annan Riding of the Marches.

Annan Riding of the Marches is one of the largest and oldest ceremonies in Southwest Scotland dating back 700 years. It was said that a ‘March Riding’ started around 1680 was needed to look at landmarks. These are crosses, streams, wells to make sure they had not been removed or messed with in any such way.

Annan Riding of the Marches still carries out the same task. The event is two weeks of cultural, ceremonial and community events and celebrating the tradition. It takes place in late June and early July, it starts on the First Saturday in July – Marches Day.

The funds came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. This runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022).

We are delighted to be supporting Annan Riding of the Marches. We enjoy helping keep up with many years of tradition of the town. We wish the volunteer committee the best of luck with this year. I am sure will prove to be as successful as earlier years.
