On Wednesday 25th May 2022 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to members of Annan The History Town Group.

Annan The History Town Group is an active community group promoting Annan as the history town. They continually seek to promote the town, emphasising their rich heritage. They want to improve the public realm and heritage interpretation within Annan. For the first time last year the group organised and held a Summer Festival with key events and exhibitions for the benefit of local townspeople and visitors.

The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will assist with the cost of putting on two major exhibitions which will form part of this year’s Summer Festival – Annan’s Historic Railways (including Eastriggs and Gretna) and the History of State Management in the area. The Summer Festival is held over an 8-week period (July and August) which includes walks, talks, music events as well as various exhibitions.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide financial support to Annan The History Town Group’s Summer Festival. I am sure it will be a great success and an enjoyable time for the people of Annan and beyond.”

Frank Sweeney, Group CEO of CHA

“This funding is invaluable to us, allowing us to develop the events throughout the summer.”

Event’s organiser Graeme MacGregor

The funding for Annan The History Town Group came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
