On Monday 11th April 2022 John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Scott Gibson, Vice-captain at Ardeer Golf Club.

Ardeer Golf Club is a community run golf club located in the North of Stevenston. The golf club was formed in 1880 making it one of the oldest clubs in Ayrshire. The Golf Club provides a place for golfers to experience a true test of golf at an affordable price. The Club provides discounted rates to OAP’s, under 30’s, to local unemployed residents and those on Universal Credit as well as offering under 16’s free golf at certain times of the week, trying to make it as inclusive for everyone. It is run by a dedicated voluntary committee who put the community at the heart of everything they do, making golf as affordable as possible for everyone to experience. The committee are working hard to try to promote the golf course and make it a popular place for people to come. to make it a thriving Club it once was.

The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will support the planned Open Day the Committee have worked hard to hopefully fulfil in June this year. The Open day will require a lot of preparation and funds to ensure it is a successful day. The costs involved to help make it successful will be advertising in advance and then on the day the committee would like to have prizes for the players, food and refreshment provisions and staffing where required. The club will also be offering free golf to under 16’s at certain times throughout the week so anyone at any level can experience a full round of golf on a tough course. This will allow younger members of the community, who  might have an interest in playing the sport, come and see what it’s all about. The aim of the day is about giving as many people as possible a chance to play golf at an affordable price and getting a buzz about the Club again.

The funding for Ardeer Golf Club came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

The open week at Ardeer Golf Club was historically a staple in Ayrshire’s golfing calendar. The open event in June will hopefully give our loyal members, guests and visitors an excellent weekend of golf with fantastic hospitality and prizes. The funding and support from Cunninghame Housing Associating is greatly appreciated and has given us a platform to make the event even more of a success”.
