On Tuesday 26th April 2022 both John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association (CHA) and Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive of CHA presented a cheque for £1,000 to Julia Gray, Chairperson of the Ardrossan Community Association.
The Ardrossan Community Association is made up of a voluntary committee, whose sole purpose is serving the local community and work hard to bring more social events, fundraisers, clubs and classes for the people of the community to participate in. The Association is based at the Whitlees Centre in Ardrossan.
The activities provided thanks to the Associations’ hard work include a café, afterschool club, craft classes, mother and toddlers’ groups, youth clubs, to name a few and throughout the school holidays they try and arrange as many activities as possible for young people to enjoy, most recently an Easter Funday. The Funday was held on 13th April and involved making Easter Bonnets, arts and crafts, games and lunch was provided for every young person that attended.
The Committee are also in the process of organising a Gala Day due to take place on 26th June and is open to everyone. The Committee works directly with the schools in Ardrossan to help plan the events. This year, the children have picked a Disney Lego Dinosaurs theme. The Gala Day involves a parade around the town where the children dress up. On the day, a King, Queen, 2 Princesses, and 2 Princes, are crowned. There are games for the children, competitions, disco, family games, face painting and a Fair on the day too.
The funding for The Ardrossan Community Association came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
This year we have made the Gala bigger and better with the Association’s funding, we will have 3 Princesses, 3 Princes, A King and a Queen so we need to be on our toes.Julia Gray, Centre Co-ordinator
CHA is pleased to support the Ardrossan Community Association with their planned Gala Day which I am sure will benefit many in the local community and give the children a great start to their school summer holidays.JOHN KELLY, Chairperson, CHA
