Changes to the Scottish Welfare Fund Crisis Grants

The limit of Scottish Welfare Fund crisis payments to three per people per year has been stopped due to Covid-19.

Scottish Government considers the current circumstances to be exceptional, so that this can be applied. Social Security Secretary, Shirley Anne Somerville said. The SWF allows local councils to make more than three payments someone in a 12 month period. This will happen under these uncertainl times. We have written to each local council agreeing £45 million for the Scottish Welfare Fund. We noted that we consider the current times to be exceptional.
