On Thursday 14th July 2022 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, presented a cheque for £1,000 to Rob Holiday, Eck Graham and Kevin Clark, Committee members of Eastriggs Community Group.

The Eastriggs Community Group is a voluntary organisation who formed to fund raise and carry out community work to benefit the area and the local community. The Community Group liaises with Dumfries & Galloway (DGC) on issues that affect the community including roads, pavements, war memorial, planning etc. They are also the nominated group for managing its resilience plan dealing with adverse weather conditions. During the covid pandemic they set up the ‘Covid response Resilience Team’ working with DGC, keeping the community informed, conducting shopping for local people, delivering medications and setting up arrangements where community members could order provisions not readily available and providing a point of delivery locally.

The Eastriggs Community Group help deliver a whole range of services which all have the same end game – helping and benefitting the community. The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is to support them hosting a Fun Day planned for Saturday 30th July 2022. The Fun Day will give all members of the community an opportunity to join in. It is designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone with all proceeds being used to fund future proposed local projects such as Christmas lights, upgrade to the Green and improvements to the war memorial.

The funding for Eastriggs Community Group came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

Cunninghame Housing Association are pleased to support the Eastriggs Community Group in achieving what they set out to do – support the community whilst improving the area – they have achieved so much in such a short space of time
