On Monday 11th April 2022 John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Liam Anderson, a young ice hockey player from Stevenston.

Liam has been playing ice hockey from the age of 5 years old. He is based at Harvies in Stevenston and currently plays in an amateur ice hockey team called North Ayrshire Wild and they play in the Scottish National League. The League takes them all over Scotland such as Dumfries and Aberdeen and as far as Belfast where the team play both home and away games throughout the year. Liam trains with the team twice weekly as well as matches at the weekends.

Liam has played ice hockey for 17 years and thrives on being part of an amateur ice hockey team; it is benefits Liam’s mental health and avoids isolation – something that had been particularly evident for many during the last couple of years due to Covid restrictions. The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will assist Liam with the ever-rising costs associated with ice hockey such as insurance cover, registration and competition fees as well as equipment. Liam is self-funded therefore the support from the Association is gratefully received and will allow Liam to continue in his sport.

The funding for Liam came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

The Association are delighted to support Liam with the financial costs that are incurred with continuing to be part of an ice hockey team, whilst enabling him to compete and take part in a competitive sport
