Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, presented a cheque for £1,000 to Lochar Thistle Football Club.

Lochar Thistle Football Club was formed in 1969 for young people at Locharbriggs and Heathhall communities. The club is run by volunteers. The Club hosts those from 5-17 years old, giving a path into the under 20’s and to their adult team. The Club is very much community driven, giving opportunities to young people is the main goal. The number of young people who use the Club is rising. As such are buying a new storage unit for new equipment that is needed.

The funds came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. It runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March) until the funding is exhausted.

Lochar Thistle Football Club is a fantastic facility for the local community and beyond. It gives a safe place for young people to play , build confidence and be part of a local team.

Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive of CHA

I’d like to thank Cunninghame Housing Association for their generosity in the support. It will let us buy a safe and secure storage unit for training equipment which is needed for the club. The number of kids joining the club is increasing. More equipment is needed to keep up the standard for the youths of today. The path we have to adults’ football makes it an environment that will make a difference to the kids. Thanks for your support.

Russell Caskie, Secretary Lochar Thistle
