Locharbriggs Primary Parent Council

Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer, Cunninghame Housing Association, Gemma Giebler, Chairperson and Vivien McClure, Secretary both of Locharbriggs Primary School Parent Council

On Friday 10th February 2023 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Gemma Giebler, Chairperson, and Secretary, Vivien McClure of Locharbriggs Primary School Parent Council.

The Parent Council works in partnership between the school, its young people, the parents/carers, and the local community. Part of what they do is developing and engaging in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupils including fundraising.

Over the years the Parent Council have invested in and fundraised for lots of useful equipment that they use to help bring much needed funds into the school – equipment that can be utilised at fundraising events to allow them to happen, for example barbeques, gazebos, tables and much more. Due to limited storage within the school, they are looking to purchase their own storage.

The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will assist with the purchase of the essential storage required for the equipment. This will ensure the Parent Council have a safe and secure space to store the resources and therefore will last a long time. This will ensure that the equipment is protected and there to be utilised for years to come.

The funding for Locharbriggs Primary School Parent Council came from the Associations “Making Our Communities Better Places Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

It has become evident that over the years Parent Councils play a significant role in the school community, giving up their time to organise, fundraise and take part in decision making within the school. Cunninghame Housing Association is thrilled to support the Parent Council and help achieve their goals.
