Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to Marion Murdoch, Tom Smith & Ted Hills of Lockerbie Ice Rink Curling School.

Lockerbie Ice Rink has been operating within Lockerbie since 1967 and has provided curling and skating facilities for the local community and surrounding area which includes South West Scotland and North West England. The facility is also available to the local communities and organisations to hold meetings and functions in the lounge area and large scale events in the ice hall in the Summer months. Junior curling sessions and skating sessions thrive within the facility.

The funding awarded by Cunninghame Housing Association is to subsidise a block of curling sessions for their Mini Rockers section, which provides start up tuition for young people aged six to nine years old and hopefully leads them onto the pathway to curling success.

The funding for Lockerbie Ice Rink came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

“we are extremely grateful to Cunninghame Housing Association for providing the support to the Mini Rockers and funding an ice logo which assists with the cost of the maintenance of the facility”.

RAE GRAHAM, Chairperson, Lockerbie Ice Rink

“We are delighted to be able to provide financial support to Lockerbie Ice Rink, providing young people with an opportunity to learn a new sport as well as supporting their social skills and assisting with their development. The Ice Rink is clearly a valuable asset within the community and beyond – we hope the young people enjoy the sessions”.
