Kelly Murray, a Housing Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association recently presented a cheque for £500 to Bee Williams, Marketing and Communications co-ordinator of Wigtown Festival Company.
Wigtown Festival Company was established in 2007 and is now an award-winning charity that runs the annual Wigtown Book Festival; the Big DoG Schools Tour and the Big DoG Childrens’ Festival amongst many more. The charity aims to promote and assist the advancement of education and the arts, as well as to promote rural regeneration and relief of poverty and isolation.
The funding for Wigtown Festival Company came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
Funding was provided by Cunninghame Housing Association to assist with the financial costs of running this year’s Big DoG Children’s Festival, which is taking place in Dumfries from 22nd – 24th March which will consist of 32 events over the 3 days for 0 – 13-year-olds. The charity wants to create opportunities for audiences from all backgrounds – especially young people – to find inspiration through reading, writing and storytelling.
“We are thrilled to be able to support this fantastic Festival aimed at young people in Dumfries, providing them with the opportunity to engage with well-known published authors, illustrators and storytellers. We hope the event is a great success!”.JANET STRANG, Chairperson of CHA
