On Wednesday 13th December 2022 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Robert Carruthers, Chairperson of Nithsdale Wanderers Football Club.
Nithsdale Wanderers are a community football club based in Sanquhar who have members aged 5 years old right through to adulthood and is run solely by volunteers. It was originally set up in 1890 and reformed in 2001.
The Club consists of a men’s team who play in the South of Scotland league and a women’s team who play in the ladies’ league that covers Dumfries & Galloway and Ayrshire (the club have players from Sanquhar, Annan, Gretna, Lockerbie, Eastriggs and Cumnock. They invite players from outwith the local area due to a small population.
The youth group consists of 40-50 young people who also train and play out of the club. The club is also utilised by the public for local events and fundraisers as well as the local school who use the facility.
The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is helping to fund the replacement of some much-needed flooring to the entrance of the Pavilion and installation of a baby changing facility.

The funding came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. It runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March) until the funding is exhausted.
