Lesley Keenan of Cunninghame Housing Association gave a cheque for £1,000 to Alec Wilkie. Alec is Chair of the Saltcoats Community Action Group.
The group has been running for years, set up by the late Martha McNicol to have Christmas Lights in Saltcoats. Her efforts then grew into the Christmas Carnival. The group is now made up of 3 core volunteers Elaine Meney, Tom McCammont and Alec Wilkie. They aim to deliver the yearly Christmas Carnival in Saltcoats with help from local groups on the day.
They aim to give a day of fun and entertainment to families on the last Sunday of November. The day has free entertainment, which allows local artists, performers, dancers and bands to show their talents. The Christmas Carnival marks the towns Christmas Lights Switch On.
The funds from Cunninghame Housing Association helped with part of the costs of the Fairground. They charged a small fee letting children to go on and off rides as they wished.
“Once again many thanks to all at CHA for your generous donation and it was an incredible day for everyone”.Alec Wilkie, Chairperson of the Saltcoats Community Action Group
“Given the current climate and the challenges people face we are delighted to be able to provide financial assistance to the Saltcoats Community Action Group supporting a fantastic day for the local community whilst taking away the huge expense for families.”Lesley Keenan, Chairperson of CHA
The funding came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. It runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March) until the funding is exhausted.
