Lesley Keenan, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association recently presented a cheque for £700 to Ellen McGowan, Chairperson of the Wednesday Friendship Club along with other members.
The Wednesday Friendship Club is a social club promoting opportunities for those aged 60 plus and are residents of Stevenston and the surrounding areas. The committee is made up of volunteers who organise and run various activities/outings for the members who are Senior Citizens as well as providing a weekly meet up point to come together and enjoy the company of others. The aim of the group is to provide all members with a place to come and socialise/make friends where they may otherwise suffer from isolation.
The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is assisting with the financial cost of hiring transport to enable the group to arrange an outing providing everyone with a day to look forward to and supporting the members of the group – the continued increase in costs is having an impact on the group with rents going up/provisions.
The funding came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. It runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March) until the funding is exhausted.
We are happy to be able to support such an invaluable group, providing many with the opportunity to come together in a safe place whilst making new friends and preventing members from suffering social isolationLesley Keenan, Chairperson of CHA
