March 22nd iss World Water Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of using our water resources wisely. There are plenty of simple and fun ways to reduce water consumption right in your own home.
Fix Those Leaks – Leaky taps and showerheads may seem like minor issues, but they can waste litres of water every day. Take a minute to check your all taps, toilets, and pipes for leaks. Not only will this save water, but it’ll also help you save on your water bill!
Take Shorter Showers – While long, luxurious showers may be tempting, they can also be major water wasters. Challenge yourself and your family members to take shorter showers by setting a timer or playing your favorite song as a time limit. By reducing your shower time by just a few minutes, you can save a lot of water each month.
Only Run Full Loads – Whether you’re doing washing or running the dishwasher, make sure to wait until you have a full load before starting the cycle. Running these appliances with small loads wastes water and energy, so maximise efficiency and money by waiting until you can fill them up completely.
Reuse! – Get creative with how you use water around the house. For example, instead of wasting clean water from waiting on your shower to heat up, collect it and use it to water your plants. You can also collect rainwater in a bucket to use for watering your garden in the dryer Summer months.
By trying out these simple tips, you can make a huge impact on water usage in your own home. Let’s celebrate World Water Day by cutting our usage and bills. Remember every drop counts!
